Conwell students went on an all-day science zoo field trip for their school on Sept. 30, 2022.
S. Montanez – section 62 talked to these reporters, while at the zoo. She said she liked the snakes and the alligators and the gecko in the Reptile House.
“I liked the reptiles because their skin is scaly,” S. Montanez said.
The Reptile House had a door with leaves all around it. Then when you go inside the door, it was a place with a lot of reptiles.
There were many other animals to see and smell, as well.
“I think it’s interesting because the things I smelled were different,” L. Vaught-82, said. “My favorite animal was the animals that were in the water like the penguins and polar bears”
However, this trip was not just about seeing animals.
“It’s not just about the Zoo,” Principal Green said before the trip, “It’s about science and learning different species.”

At Conwell Middle Magnet School we have this after school program called After School All Stars or ASAS for short.
Photo by A Vega 81 of ASAS basketball students with Coach Mr. Drew.
In ASAS we have yoga, basketball, volleyball, journalism, and many more.
After school All Stars is hosted by Ms. Maria, Conwell’s School Secretary, and other teachers who host different activities.
For basketball, we have Mr. Andrew Young or Mr. Drew for short. In basketball we start off easy with simple dribbling moves and shooting drills. Sometimes kids in ASAS get to play against each other like races and shooting competitions.
It is also fun because sometimes kids get to play shooting games, for example, we play Knockout if they have a little bit of spare time.
Mr. Drew tries to make the best players out of everyone even if you just started playing basketball. Overall basketball is a fun program because the teacher tries to make you the best player in fun different ways.

A match between two former teammates turned out to be a massacre as both sides of the ball were clicking for the Eagles.
Wentz was sacked whopping total of 9 times! This number of sacks by the Eagles hasn’t been seen since 1991. It also is the most sacks done by a team in the NFL so far. On the Offensive side everything was clicking as the Eagles scored 24 unanswered points. The star of the game is not a doubt DeVonta Smith who had a total of 8 receptions going for 169 Yards and 1 touch down. Jalen Hurts has also shown to be a threat as he threw for over 340 Yards including 3 touch downs.
The Eagles will face off against the Jaguars in their home turf on .
Washington will try to pick things up again as they face off the division rival Cowboys.

Conwell Middle Magnet school students in seventh and eighth grades had a chance to be in the Penn relays when the school’s Health and Physical Education teacher, coach Adams, had a tryout for the Penn Relays in March. By the time the Penn Relays happened, two of Conwell’s students ran to first place in the 100-meter relay competitions
One of the students who raced and won in the 100-meter relay at the Penn relays, named E. Mills of section 83, said this about the Penn Relays, “It felt really great to win and it showed me that hard work really pays off”.
The students that did well in the tryout got on the team and got to practice for the Penn Relays with Coach Adams, both inside and outside the school building.
“The eighth and seventh grade students practiced on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Coach Adams said. “They practiced on the school stairs and the yard”.
“It felt really great to win, and it showed me that hard work really pays off.” – E. Mills – Section 83, who took first place at the 100-Meter Boys Dash at the 2022 Penn Relays.
The top seventh and eighth grade male participants for the Penn Relay tryouts were E. Mills, M. Levister II, N. Irizarry, A. Castillo-Ortiz, and N. Young-Bullock. The top 7th and 8th grade female participants were A. Capps, O. Liz Sanchez, D. Hargrove, N. Lewis, and S. Ortiz. Most students raced in the Large School Boys and Girls Middle Grades 4x100meter relay.
The Penn Relays is a track and field competition from 4th grade to college, according to Coach Adams. Also the Penn Relays is the oldest track and field competition in the United States starting on April 21,1895. The Penn relays always start on the last Friday of April.
Coach Adams said the Penn Relays are located at the Franklin Field Stadium on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
The people who got to go were the eighth, seventh and sixth grade runners. And a couple of excellent students who got nominated from Conwell. Everyone who got to go went to the Penn relays on April 24, on a Friday.
The football stadium had a bunch of people with the tracks on the outside of the football field .The event consisted of 8th and 7th graders doing the track race and 6th graders racing on a football field in the center of the track.
“It was scary and then it was fun,” N. Lewis of section 71, who won the girls 100 meter relay, said.
Was it just a nightmare? – Art by D. Alvarado – 51, CCB Contributor
It was nighttime.
I just went to sleep. I was sleeping peacefully until I heard a knock. I woke up, it was Pitch Dark. I got out of My bed To turn on the lights and then I opened my door to check who knocked when I realized It was nobody. I turned off my lights and went back to sleep.
I woke up again to someone knocking on my window.
I got scared and didn’t do anything but stare at my curtains covering my window. I got curious and wanted to open my curtains. I got out of my bed and walked to my window. Now I was standing in front of my window getting ready to open the curtains.
I saw 2 clowns dressed in clown suits. They Opened my window, and I got scared when I heard one of the clowns speak.
“You finally woke up. Let us enter!” it said with a creepy smile .
I also realized that they were on a rope. The rope was connected to the neighbor’s house. When I noticed the rope, the clowns came towards me. I panicked and ran to the bathroom. This was a mistake, but didn’t notice it until later.
“‘You finally woke up. Let us enter!'” it said with a creepy smile.”
I was In the bathroom, and I thought I was safe, but I really wasn’t safe. There was a little window in the bathroom. When I looked at the small window I saw the clowns!
They looked even more terrifying than before I froze. When The clowns managed to open the little window, I got scared and yelled at them.
“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!”
At the same time, both of the clowns said, “You. We Want you!”
I panicked, and passed out.
I woke up in my bed, and I said to myself, “It wasn’t real? Thank God.”
That’s when I looked at my bedroom mirror and saw that my smile wasn’t my own. It was creepy, and it was still nighttime.

Editor’s Note: I think that this article is very remarkable, because it’s telling people how you shouldn’t mess with people’s hard word. The following was presented on a previous morning meeting.
Respecting public art is important because it takes a lot of time, skill and patience from the artist to create it. People use art as a way to express themselves. If you disrespect it by vandalizing it then you are not being kind to the person who created it. Also, other people won’t have the chance to enjoy the artwork. Public art adds great value to the culture and atmosphere of a community. There are many murals, statues and sculptures all around Philadelphia.
“I can conclude that respecting public art is important because artists take time to create meaningful work. We should appreciate their talent, time, and effort.“
From S. Ortiz
Public art creates community pride and a sense of belonging. It enhances the quality of life for its residents and visitors. It’s important to many people for many reasons. From this I can conclude that respecting public art is important because artists take time to create meaningful work for their communities to enjoy. We should appreciate their talent, time, and effort.

Graphic to accompany R. Rowan’s ACWAO Reports! segment in recognition of Eid. Poster was originally displayed outside the Conwell Main Office during the month of Ramadan – Graphic by R. Rowan – section 62, CCB Staff
Hello Conwell!
This is R. Rowan of section 62 reporting for ACWAO. This Tuesday on May 3rd we had taken the day off, as it was in recognition of Eid al-Fitr.
Dr. Hite, School District of Philadelphia’s superintendent, said in a district-wide message that “this is religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.”
As further explained on History.com, the website says:
“Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection and prayer for Muslims, the followers of Islam. Each day during Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn to sunset. They are also supposed to avoid impure thoughts and bad behavior.”
According to History.com, the website says that “Muslims break their daily fasts by sharing meals with family and friends, and the end of Ramadan is celebrated with a three-day festival known as Eid al-Fitr, one of Islam’s major holidays.” This year, Ramadan began at sunset on Saturday, April 2, and ends on the evening of Monday, May 2. Thank you and this has been R. Rowan reporting for ACWAO.

Genius painting from N. Lewis-72- image courtesy of N. Lewis
N.Lewis of 72 has made a painting for her sister’s birthday that happened this month. This is N. Lewis’s second time being highlighted on the Cowell Cougars Blog and second time giving us great paintings!
N. Lewis made this painting for her sister and she doesn’t mind sharing her painting with our school. You can tell she really loves sharing her work with her school.her painting for her sister was just as great as the first. She has a very creative mind and she is very talented.
N.Lewis wanted to share with her school community the fine details about this painting. N.Lewis said that she made the painting for her sister’s birthday, as she was turning 17 and her sister asked for the painting. It took N.Lewis an hour to paint the painting by her sister’s birthday on April 5. According to N. Lewis, she said that she likes to paint a lot and the painting she made for her mom for the past Eid al-Fitr inspired her to create this painting.
Peter Stern, 81, a Holocaust survivor, gave the Conwell Middle Magnet School community a presentation on what happened durning the Holocaust. Throughout the assembly, which took place at 9 a.m. on April 6, 2022 on Zoom, Stern painted a very tragic picture of what he and his family went through.
‘’Why is it that people go through stuff I experienced?” Stern said.
According to Stern’s presentation and his online biography. Stern was born in Nuremberg, Germany in March 1936, he had a younger brother named Sam. His father’s name was Artur and he was a mechanic. In 1941 Stern and his family were deported to Germany to a camp in Latvia, which was surrounded by guards and traps.
“Because, we shouldn’t forget the past, knowing our past helps us know where we came from,” said Mr. Posnan.
Mr.Posan
Stern was only 6 years old, and he said he did not know what was going on. On the campsite, in the building, he said there were many Jewish people in one house. He said the Nazis tricked them into going into camps to kill off the Jewish people. The Nazis took away his rights and also his family rights. They did it because Jewish people were way different from them.
D. Llanos, in section 62, had some questions to ask Mr. Stern about the Holocaust, during the question and answer part of the Zoom presentation.
“Why did so many people go along with his plans?” said D. Llanos.
To answer that question Stern revealed a sad truth from his experience.
“The Nazis believed that the Germans were very easily tricked into agreeing with their plan,” Stern said.
Mr. Posan, a 6th grade math teacher at Conwell Middle Magnet School, who helped organize the presentation, said some encouraging words to Peter Stern.
“Because, we shouldn’t forget the past, knowing our past helps us know where we came from,” said Mr. Posnan.

Hi! This is how I made my newest song, MISSING_ASSETS. I use Fl Studio 20 for all my music, and this was no exception. The first thing I did was use the plugin Sytrus for the weird alien acid-like sound you hear. (The preset is called Acid 3 so take that as you will.) I made them Major Chords, and made them go down for the first three chords and then take them up on the last. Then I used SimSynth, And just copied the chords and pasted them in SimSynth.
Next was the Hi-Hats and Kicks. At the start of the song you can probably hear “ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts ts tts ts ts” I used them for the kicks as well which you can hear at the end of the song when the Hi-Hats were removed. Next was the Drum Loop that I just found on the Internet so not much to add here. Now the Vocals, I made most of them up by myself but two of them are taken from the song this song is based off of, Recovered_Project.
At 16 Seconds, you can hear a reference to Recovered Project at this Part (This Link should take you straight to that timestamp: https://youtu.be/gi45-19UPQE?t=16 And at 1:04 Seconds, You can Hear a reference to the part at 40 seconds in Recovered Project. https://youtu.be/gi45-19UPQE?t=40. To make the Visualizer, I Used ZGameVisualizer.
The effects I used are, Linear, (The Waveform in the back, Youlean TextDraw (To add the text), and Youlean Time Stamp for the time stamp in the corner.
That’s Basically How I made the song. Thanks for Listening! Here’s my Youtube if you wanna see more of the music, and other content I do: Nocturnal – YouTube.
Dark woods surrounding me, the cold wind hitting my face as I run. Why am I running? I need to go; he’s gaining. He wants me. I don’t know why, but he does.
Come on, boy, he said with a snarl to his voice.
But I keep going. I see a cabin. I ran to it, going in and slamming the door. As I go deeper into the cabin, there’s a foul smell to it, like something died. As I walked to the back, I saw something hanging. As I get closer, the smell is getting worse. Once I was close enough to see that it was a body, not just anybody, it was mine. My body, my same exact eyes, my same exact tattoos, everything, this is my body. As I back up in fear, I bump into something as I slowly turn around to see what I bumped into. It was him, the thing I feared, that I wanted to get away from.
Death himself.
Once I was close enough to see that it was a body, not just anybody, it was mine.
He grabbed my shoulder and turned me around. I actually got a good look at him. He looked like a kid, like maybe 16 or 17 years old. Sorry, he says, we fall into a pit of darkness. once, hitting what felt like a floor. I look around. Warm sunlight hitting my face, soft grass surrounding my body. I see my wife. I run into her arms. The love of my life is back to me.
An amazing drawing made by N Holland from 108 . In my opinion, you can tell she really loves the fact that she’s an artist. N. Holland’s drawing gives you many ideas, but one is that she’s very talented and knows it.
“[N. Holland] is interested in sharing her artwork, because it is something she truly enjoys,” Ms. Lisa of Room 108 said. “It is one of her talents and she worked hard on it and she wanted to share with her school community”.
Delicious cake Photo Credit to S. Ortiz CCB Contributor
Let’s slice the cake Ms. Maria, Conwell Middle Magnet School ASAS coordinator, was so generous and took bought a delicious yellow cake just to share with the ASAS students. We split it between the whole ASAS program and it was very good and delicious.
Everybody had a fun time and we savored every bite of it. Ms. Maria is so kind to put money into this program and encourage others to give. The cake was a yellow balloon cake with white frosting and blue frosting and the bottom of the cake and had a red surface all around.
“I appreciate every single one of you,” Ms. Maria said.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I’m excited although it’s taking a while. It’s nighttime and I’m supposed to be sleeping when nobody’s awake. I waited downstairs for an hour and nobody’s there. I gave up and I was so tired, I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I went to my room and went to sleep. The next day passed but it didn’t feel right.
I woke up and I was happy it was my birthday, I woke up my parents in a hurry, I was too excited, something was weird it’s like my parents were hiding something, we all got ready and went downstairs. And I saw the presents. I opened all of them, but one gift was weird – it was a stuffed animal a cute bear.
All graphics in this story by R. Rowan-62, CCB Staff
I didn’t ask for it, but I like it. I played with my gifts and placed the bear on the floor. I went to walk away to get something, but when I looked again, the bear was gone… I was just thinking it was my imagination. It was near the table someone might have moved it there’s nothing to worry about. I walked away again and It was in a different place. This time I knew it wasn’t my imagination, I wasn’t crazy. I told my parents and it was almost like they were hiding a secret from me.
I was freaked out by this bear and I had a bad feeling something was going to happen. Maybe the bear feels left out, maybe if I play with it it wouldn’t do anything. As soon as I was gonna play with it my mom told me we were going surfing .
When I arrived there I got ready and it was time. I surfed on the biggest wave as I was surfing down the biggest wave. I felt like I was falling, I was falling when suddenly I went flying. It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced. I remembered I let go of the surfboard and there was a something on the wave. So that’s why I went flying. It was just bad luck.
I went back home and when I entered the house I knew something bad was gonna happen. The bear was out of sight. The bear appeared when I was looking at the window, and I was scared. When I called out for help, nobody would hear being in a snow biome, living in the only house there was. I spotted things out of order and I just fainted out of nowhere.
I woke up and I was in the snow biome. I called out for help and nobody heard me. Just as I thought, something bad did happen ….. my mom was looking for me but could not find me and I couldn’t find the bear either. I noticed that the bear appeared at a tree and it came alive. I was chased and I couldn’t find a way to go back home. It felt like I was never gonna come home again.
I saw something in the distance I ran towards it and it was my house. I was happy and I ran towards it and went in. My mom was so happy that she ran to hug me. The bear appeared again and I realized something. The bear only appears when I’m alone…
That’s scary. I had to get rid of it. I put it in the trashcan and there was no sight of the bear. I was happy, but then I heard a nose, I turned around and the bear had red eyes … I knew there was something suspicious about this bear. I looked up on my phone what the signs of red eyes from a bear means and I couldn’t believe it. It said that the bear is coming alive…
Evil Bear Symptoms:
Red eyes,
Appearing (when you’re alone),
Disappearing,
Following you and
Mischief.
Those are all the Symptoms I’ve been experiencing. It’s real, The bear came alive.
I ran for my life and Looked up what to do when a bear is alive. It said to make the bear happy and to do that you have to play with it. I played with it and was happy again. It turned back to a teddy bear.
This adventure was actually a good highlight of my day, I was actually just overreacting about this bear, it was actually fun. I had an idea who to take the bear, too, My Wicked Cousin Who’s a Bear collector.
She don’t know what’s coming. I put it on her doorstep and rang her doorbell.
I ran back to my house and looked out the window. She opened the door and talked to it and took care of it, it was almost like she’s the one who gave us the bear and was a plan all along. She made a big loud scream and dropped the bear on the ground nowhere to be seen. I was surprised to see that but she deserved it. I’m pretty sure the bear liked me better than her. But after all Karma came back to haunt her.

The coach for ASAS basketball, Mr. Young, gave all the kids in ASAS (After School All Stars) Fitbit watches to keep track of your calories, footsteps, and general well-being at the beginning of March.
“You can use the fit bit watches in everyday life and all the time if possible,” Coach Young said.
You can get the fit bit watches anywhere like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Amazon. The reason that Coach Young gave the kids in ASAS the Fitbit watches is because Coach Young has a heart of gold.
“So kids know we care about your health,” Coach Young Said.
Coach Young gave all the kids Fitbit watches because ASAS has a partnership with Fitbit to help keep kids aware of their health.
C. Serrano-62, A student athlete in ASAS, gives his view about the Fitbit watches.
“I like how you can see how many calories you burn, how many footsteps you take in a day and all the other special features it comes with. Also I like how there are different types of colors between blue, black, and pink,” said C. Serano-62, ASAS Student.
“I like how you can see how many calories you burn, how many footsteps you take in a day.”
unique forest image from N Lewis-72 – image courtesy of N Lewis
N Lewis from class 72 has made a painting from an old picture. Her painting is a pretty pathway. I think as the KAC Editor that its very unipue and different from other paintings. Here’s what N Lewis has to say about her painting:
Throwing out a bunch of swear words when you are angry or frustrated doesn’t let people know what is wrong. It only lets people know that you are upset. Because swearing does hinder communication, it is much better to avoid swear words and express what is really bothering you.
“What happens when you swear, cursing, cussing, profanity at school?”
Many teachers or staff members will give you a detention for yelling the “F” bomb in class. or like Ms. Green says “ Queen Bee Curse Words” It depends on the teacher or staff member (and who hears you). Some teachers hated it, others didn’t mind so much. However, it’s rude and doesn’t show your true respect for others.
How we can stop saying/using profanity we can say more appropriate words rather than they really offensive ones.
For example instead of saying the F word we can say:
Flipping
Freaking
Fudge
Frickin.
For example instead of saying the S word we can say:
